By swearing in for the third time Narendra Modi has entered into the history books as the only PM in India after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to get three terms.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also achieved the record feat of third longest serving PM of India. Modi followed Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi even in case of the length of Prime Ministership.
India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru is the longest serving PM of the nation. He served as PM for 15th August 1947 to 27th May 1964. He served as PM of the nation for about 16 years 286 days.
Nehru’s daughter and iconic leader Indira Gandhi has the record for being the second PM to serve for longest time. However unlike Nehru, her tenure was not continous. Indira Gandhi served as PM of India for 15 years 350 days.
Coming to the present, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was first sworn in as India’s PM on 26th May 2014. He has sworn in as PM for third time on June 9, 2024. Till date he has served as PM for 10 years 14 days becoming the third largest PM of India.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is the fourth longest serving PM of India with 10 years 4 days service. He is followed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the fifth largest serving PM with 6 years 80 days at the country’s most powerful office.
