Freshers turn to Digital Marketing and Social Media Management for Job opportunities

By Deepthi Nandan Reddy
Hyderabad, June 17: The job market is stressed and freshers are finding it hard to crack their first job, owing to high competition and decreasing jobs. Especially IT and ITES sectors are facing severe job crunch with the jobs not increasing on par with the rising number of engineering graduates passing out from engineering colleges. In this backdrop, digital marketing and social media management jobs are turning saviours for the job seeking freshers.

Normally digital marketing and social media management (DM and SM) jobs are preferred only after the core IT roles by many job seekers. But as jobs in core IT sector are decreasing, graduates from all streams are looking towards DM and SM jobs.

“I have completed by B.Tech in 2023 and even got a campus placement offer from a reputed software company. They have given offer letter but did not recruit even till May 2024. Unable to wait further I have joined a digital marketing course in Hyderabad and looking to join a digital marketing and social media management company,” said S Sravanti, a B.Tech graduate from Vijayawada speaking to Yupbeat.com

There are thousands of fresh graduates like Sravanti, who have even got offer letters in campus placement drives but yet to be taken on rolls by software companies. This shows the tough situation in job market. Amid these tough times, digital marketing and social media jobs are coming as a big relief for job seekers.

“It is true that job marketing is facing a recession in India. Naturally job seekers both freshers and experienced are facing testing times. But that it not the end of all hope. There are still jobs in emerging technologies areas like AI, ML, data analytics. Even digital marketing and social media management companies are growing steadily there by creating new jobs. Freshers from both IT and non-IT background are being recruited from digital marketing and social media roles. Though the pay for digital marketing and social media management jobs is lesser compared to IT roles, freshers are preferring them to start their career,” opined Vinod Kumar, founder and CEO of Bengaluru-based digital marketing and social media agency Axis Studio.

Being an adviser to Startup Karnataka initiative, Vinod stresses that jobs in digital marketing and social media are bound to increase in the future and freshers can build good careers with right skills in these areas.

According to inputs from digital marketing and social media experts, by learning skills like website development and desiging, online ad campaign management, content writing, Search Engine Optimisation, Google Ads, social media management, analytics and others, freshers can land in their first job with a package of Rs 1.8 to 3 lakh per annum.
