From Lincoln to Trump: The history of assassination attempts on US Presidents

The assassination attempt at former US president Donald Trump brings to fore the troubled past of US presidents, who have faced the similar fate in the history. The shooting attempt at Donald Trump, who is campaigning for US presidentship once again is not the first one in history, where assailants have targeted the supposedly the most powerful man in the world.

Abraham Lincoln’s assassination was the first one:

Legendary Abraham Lincoln, who is considered one of the greatest leaders in the world history, was assassinated in 1865. Lesser known US Presidents James Garfield in 1881 and William McKinley in 1901 also lost their lives in assassination attempts.

John F Kennedy’s assassination made whole world sad:

The assassination of highly celebrated and charismatic US President John F Kennedy in 1963 not just shook America but the whole world. John F Kennedy’s assassination is considered the most high-profile political assassination in the history.

The attempts on US Presidents did not stop even after security has been beefed up and strict security measures were put in place after John F Kennedy’s assassination, to safeguard the life of US prez. Another charismatic US President Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981. Luckily he survived attempt on his life, but was severely injured.

The other two US Presidents who were shot at but survived were Franklin D Roosevelt (in 1933) and Gerald Ford (in 1975). The latest shooting of Donald Trump, where he got narrowly saved, points out to the serious threats posing US Presidents and those running for country’s highest office. The latest incident also points out to the security lapses in USA, which is considered the most advanced and safe nation in the world.
