Tesla founder Elon Musk’s much-publicized meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been canceled, leading to a political slugfest between the ruling BJP and the Congress-led INDIA alliance.
Elon Musk was scheduled to visit PM Modi on April 21 and 22 during his two-day visit to India. He was also expected to commit USD 2 to 3 billion towards manufacturing entry-level electric cars in India. The much-publicized meeting of Elon Musk with PM Modi during the General Elections was seen as a masterstroke of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the run-up to polls.
It was believed that PM Narendra Modi’s campaign team and the BJP’s election machinery would reap maximum mileage from the Modi-Musk meeting, which would present PM Modi’s success in attracting Tesla to India as a success story. But the cancelation of Musk’s India trip comes as a blow for the BJP.
Congress senior leader Jairam Ramesh tweeted, attacking BJP after Elon Musk canceled a meeting with PM Modi.
Besides Congress, its ally Shivasena (Uddhav) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi targeted the BJP, saying Elon Musk has escaped from the BJP’s jhumla campaign by cancelling a meeting with PM Modi.
